Help the US Dept. of Labor Help You Get a Job
Look at that seal over there. All official looking, serious, and traditional.
When Obama came into office, I questioned whether his use of social media would continue. After all, it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
Then I received an email this morning asking me to vote on an online resume tool I’ve used before. For the record, I write my own resumes now and they look just fine, but you know how it is - when you’re an undergrad and all your previous jobs required paper applications…and you barely know what a good resume looks like much less how to write one.
Anyways, I clicked the link to land on a snazzy page from…the US Department of Labor?
Oh, yes, the US Department of Labor.
They are currently crowdsourcing America to find the best online job search and career advancement tools.
Let me repeat that.
The US Department of Labor is using crowdsourcing.
Alright, maybe it isn’t such a big deal and I’m just geeking out, but I can’t help the warm and fuzzy feeling that the government, maybe, really cares about me and whether or not I’m gainfully employed. They care enough to make sure I can find the best tools available online and are using the knowledge of the people to find out what those tools are! (How very democratic!)
Please feel free to vote on your favorite tools at The Tools for America’s Job Seekers Challenge. Apparently, the results will be up in February.
Now there really is no excuse for sitting at home in my your underwear just because you don’t know how to write a resume or find a job.
